Temporal and Spiritual Preparedness: Are You Ready?

Recent devastating events—including fast-moving wildfires near Spokane, Washington and explosive BC wildfires forcing sudden mass evacuations —remind us how quickly circumstances can change. Church members are strongly encouraged to create an emergency plan or update existing ones.

As Elder L. Tom Perry instructed:

“Start now to create a plan if you don’t already have one, or update your present plan. … The instability in the world today makes it imperative that we take heed of the counsel and prepare for the future.”

When we follow this prophetic counsel, we replace panic with peace. Consider these three self-reflection questions:

  • How prepared are you for a sudden, unexpected evacuation?
  • Do you have a fully stocked 72-hour kit for every family member?
  • When was the last time you rotated the food, water, and medication in your kit?

Help out as an Employment Advisor

An Employment Advisor assists job seekers to understand how to secure a job in their field of work. If you have a job, you can advise others about how to be prepared to apply for work in your field. The Calgary West Welfare and Self-Reliance groups is developing a ‘List of Advisors.’ The list is available only to employment specialists in the Stake. Your services will be needed infrequently and only after you are contacted to make sure you are available for a phone call from the job seeker needing advice. If you can assist, please complete the advisors form, or speak about your interest to your Ward Welfare and Self-Reliance Specialist.
